Purpose

My name is Jonathan, and I am a 24 hour-a-day videogame nerd. I do not mean to imply I'm trying to set a new Guinness record for most hours burned in front of Super Mario Bros. What I mean to say, is that unless I am actively mentally engaged in my surroundings, my mind will almost unfailingly wander to videogames in some form. In recent months, this activity has begun leaning towards the conceptualization of future games. In other words, if I'm sitting on the can, driving by myself or waiting in line at Walmart, I start building game concepts in my head. I'm not Miyamoto, but I happen to think a lot of these ideas are pretty solid on paper, and as such, I'd like to immortalize them in some other form before the unpredictability of my memory wipes them from the slate like so many Cheeto crumbs. That is the sole purpose of this blog.

Any given future entry will focus on a single full game idea, and will be presented in the following manner. I divide the substance of a videogame into three primary categories: Atmosphere, Gameplay and Technology. Atmosphere is the art, the music, the story, the characters and the overall spirit of the title. Gameplay is the actual mechanics. The overall concept, the combat system, the physics and so on. Technology is the actual physical framework of the game, powering and sustaining the other two factors. The graphics engine, sound technology and capacity for expansion or user-created content.

To be perfectly honest, none of these ideas are truly fleshed out to the fullest extent. They evolve somewhat every time they come into my mind and the overall picture becomes a bit clearer. If you are reading my updates, and are intrigued by what you see here, feel free to contribute your own opinions or thoughts.

I hope you find the experience entertaining.
